Hodges
University will hold
its 2008 commencement
ceremony at 4 p.m.
Sunday at Germain
Arena in Estero.
Among the graduates
will be 37 Charlotte
County area students
who attend classes
at the Hodges University
learning site at the
Edison College Charlotte
campus.

Banks set to help
local food pantry
All five Charlotte
State Bank offices
in Charlotte County
will participate in
a June food drive
for the St. Vincent
de Paul charity food
pantry.
The bank is asking
that donations of
non-perishable food
items be brought to
any CSB location:

Port Charlotte.
Punta Gorda Office,
2331 Tamiami Trail,
Punta Gorda.
Wal-Mart Supercenter

St. Vincent de Paul,
an international charitable
organization based
at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Punta Gorda,
needs jelly, peanut
butter, canned meats,
cereal, dry pasta
and sauce, canned
pasta, tuna, boxed
fruit juices and canned
fruit.
Middle school math
team scores big in
contest
Port Charlote Middle
School Math team had
outstanding results
at the Sigma Math
League competition.
Sigma Math is a five-round
nationwide middle
school math contest.
Out of several participating
Florida schools, PCMS
ranked first in team
score for grades sixth
through eighth and
first in overall team
score.
The most notable
individual score was
that of Samantha Luce,
the PCMS Sigma Math
champion. She earned
a gold pin for scoring
37/40, which tied
her for 20th place
nationally out of
5,547 eighth-graders.
This is the best Sigma
Math score ever achieved
by a PCMS student.
The PCMS math team
is coached by Joe
Kirkey.
