The elections will
soon be upon us. It’s
important that we
do the right thing
— and it’s as easy
as 1-2-3.
No. 1. Make sure
you are properly registered.
Call LEE-VOTE (533-8683)
to verify that you
are. If not, they
will instruct you
how to get it done.
No. 2. Make sure
that you vote. Aug.
26 is the Primary
(when many local contests
will be decided),
and Nov. 4 is the
General Election.
There are several
options on how to
vote: early voting,
absentee voting, and
voting on election
day at your assigned
precinct.
No. 3. Vote wisely.
We have to protect
our “quality of life”
— manage growth, safety,
water supply, flood
control, etc.
The three county
commissioners most
responsible for Lee
County’s success in
this area (Ray Judah,
Bob Janes and Frank
Mann) must stand for
re-election this year.
The unpredictability
exhibited by the other
two commissioners,
who will hold their
seats for another
two years, makes it
extremely important
that Ray, Bob and
Frank retain their
seats.
I also urge you to
vote for Burt Saunders,
who will be opposing
Connie Mack IV for
a seat in the U.S.
Congress. Burt’s efforts
on behalf of citizens’
rights are well documented,
most recently in protecting
local control over
mining in the DR/GR
when the State Legislature
tried to usurp that
power. We need his
continued support
and protection.
